Link Directory (LD) [Deleted]

I can't think why I would use a sites link directory rather than just question Google.

But I'm interested to know if this would work as a review engine. Is anyone using it for reviews?

For example you can try to add hollandamerica.com

When it can't make a screenshot you are unable to add the link.

i have testet!
the service thats creates the screenshot, allowed only 3 redirects. But this page has some more (Idiotic)
And the Service aborts the request. Now at this point, LD returned the message from the service.

If you give the URL from the error message, the screenshot is generated.

the problem is the GEO IP :
I give hollandamerica.com on my browser - I come to this page -> http://www.hollandamerica.com/main/Main.action

This is beyond my influence!

It doesn't. It's not made for reviews and adding any more features to what it has would just add bulk that most people don't want.

Of course, you could manipulate it in a way that then redirects people to a thread, and while tht would "work" it's not the best review solution.

It's workable, but not feature rich. More like a temporary review solution opposed to full blown reviews. If you need a very simple thing that's based on the star rating only, then sure, this COULD work. All depends on what experience you want to provide to your users.

There's an article system that has a very comprehensive review system built in called AMS. It's awesome.

I'm using this as a way to link to partner sites. I really hope it stays light on the queries side too!
 
Error or bug?

In the "status" on my LINKS screen - all links that were submitted (by me) get a "link not available" warning.

Except, the links ARE available and work fine.

Few things I need...

1 I don't want this to check the status of links. How can I disable that?

2 I want to disable the green raw url that appears under the title. Comment out or disable? If comment, which template/code?

3 How can I display the FULL title in the sidebar/widget when it's in list form? There is plenty of room (for me) to display the full title when the thumbnail is next to it.

4 I attached a screenshot that cleans up the look a bit. I'd like to get rid of the link stats on the side, and ONLY keep the important stats, and place them below the link.

5 Instead of posting a date on each link, can we just put the date at the top of the page? Every link submitted on that day appears, under it are the links from yesterday? Kinda like a "links of the day" sorta thing, but you can still page through and view all previously submitted links.

6 What template is the link SHARE number in? I want to remove the number. Most users won't know what to do with that number, won't care what it is, and should be changed to the word SHARE. If we use the word share, then people will know what to do. I didn't even know what it was and I've been doing websites for 15 years lol.

7 Should we put social share tools on the share modal? Or would that cause a lag in our load time?

Really enjoy where this addon is going. I think you're doing great with it and handling our requests very well.

Also, excuse my MS PAINT skills...It would look a LOT better on a nice forum.

This is exactly the same thing as here in the XenForo-Forums.
There is a "number" for each Forum-post which is actually the "Permalink".
The same Permalink-feature has been implemented for this Link-Directory Addon.


This is a XF core-feature.
Several suggestions have been made in order to alter this core-feature:

1. Disable the cron entry, "Link Directory - Check Link status and CleanUp"
2. Style Properties | Link Directory (LD), untick "Display the URL as a text under the title"

I'm interested in adding a "directory of writers" section to my site, and so this naturally caught my attention. However, in playing around with the demo, it would seem to be most geared toward providing links and less toward giving authors or contributors text fields in which to describe the links (or other things). I'm wondering if you could therefore allow user-defined fields (including text boxes) in a future release, along with user-defined titles for those fields, of course, that would show on the front end. For my site, for example, I'd be looking at creating fields for "author bio," "publications," contact information," etc. Any actual link to the person's site (if he or she has one) would be a secondary consideration.

To me, this kind of thing is where the value in a "directory" script lies today--not in merely, or primarily, providing a way to list outbound links. The more text- and content-heavy the directory entries are, furthermore, the more weight they would be given by the search engines, I would think.
