MG 2.3 limit access to members in a specific group only

I would like to only allow access to the media gallery for members in specific group. is that possible and if so how?

Set the user group permission for XFMG 'View media gallery:' to 'Yes' or 'No' as needed.

I want to do this too, but the problem with the setting above, is it hides the media gallery tab & media gallery completely .

There doesn't seem to be a way to allow guests to view the media gallery section and view the thumbnails, then when they click on the thumbnails it tells them they must login.

We need to request this permission added to the media gallery add-on. would be great
