Light Theme Is So Underrated

I also prefer light themes but when viewing a page in the evening or at night or in a very dark place it is useful to be able to select a dark theme.

But apart from this usefulness, dark themes don't really appeal to me and often they are the signature of gaming forums which I don't practice at all.

I can't use light mode as I will literally flashbang myself if I'm in my office.

If I remember correctly, they are trying to adhere to accessibility guidelines put forth by Lighthouse, however this is one of those cases where the guideline itself is not that great. The guideline is to have a certain level of contrast between text and the background for people who do not use assistance tools... The problem is that most people who need the contrast will be using assistance tools (at least 60% of sites do not offer a good alternative), and that the level of contrast is terrible for people who do not have visual disabilities.

With just a few saturation adjustments, the design becomes a lot less strainful on your eyes (top is default, second is ~2 minute Stylebot tinkering).

EDIT: also checked that the contrast is also for OLED power saving, but I'm unsure if the level of power saving is worth the eye strain most people will have.

Which is why it's inevitable to provide both a light and dark theme.

Personally, choosing which one of the two to make the default is a tough decision. But that all depends on the niche.

I've spent some time past week customizing a light and dark theme which I'm pretty happy about apart from some details. I may do some additional color variations.

I like the Discord's standard dark theme. The colors isn't too dark, but greys. I don't like the black style of some dark themes on web. But I like the white theme of Discord too. The colors of light theme aren't too bright and not get tired of vision. I think this is the right way to dar/light themes.

I agree. I love many dark themes, but find the XF one quite uncomfortable, partly due to the deep black contrast (although the various text contrasts also feel like they pop too much), so much so that I can't use and and will stick to light, completely negating any potential power savings.

Hoping that with the new theme coming with XenForo 3 this will be rectified.
I doubt they will find a theme that everyone is happy with. You just cannot please everyone. Point being it should be easily customisable. Which if 2.3 is anything to go by it will be.

My remark concerned only the dark theme or rather the colour palette used. The least we can say is that this dark theme was not unanimous, at least from the point of view of readability.

Regarding the basic style XF personally I find it very successful, it may start to age compared to what is being done now but I am sure that version 3 will do wonders, in any case I hope so.

When we all get a copy of the stable release you can change the colours to what ever pleases you.
@Kier mentions it in here

I would not be able to change the colours here... but yes obviously every user is able to change the basic style, but some have neither the time nor the desire to fiddle in the ACP. Anyway, even if it is not perfect, the basic dark theme is widely useable as is.
