Is there a way to restore alerts to a watched thread besides revisiting the thread ?

The glasses have nothing to do with not receiving alerts.

I know. I put them there myself. I was illustrating a different use of the goggles - a visual way of showing if you are or are not receiving alerts. Goggles don't normally appear on that page.

And for all those threads, you are technically 'receiving alerts'.

I want to know which threads I will receive an alert like this .

None. You've already received the alert for the unread threads and you will receive them for the read ones.

As for the addition of the glasses with a different meaning, that's horrible UX. You use associate an image / item with one functionality, you don't change it up for a different instance. It stands to confuse the user and cause issues.
