XF 2.0 Is there a way to allow users to join a secondary group?

I know there's the user upgrades thing built into Xenforo, but is there a feature add-on or built in natively that will allow users to join a usergroup and have that as a secondary usergroup?

So for example:

users join "Playstation fans" group as a secondary group of theirs and gain access to a set of forums via permissions through the secondary group where others won't have access unless they join the group? Does that make sense?

You could setup a user upgrade with 0 costs. Also, you could promote users with custom fields I believe. Like an option "Join: PS [ ] yes [x] no".

Snog's thing would be great, but can it utilize a forum category already made and not have a new one made for a group?

Hmm, I mean i liked the idea of the custom profile field, but it's finding a way to make it so when they choose "Yes" it upgrades them.
