XF 1.2 Is It Safe To Edit Certain Phrases?

I wish to edit some of my private and public control buttons (edit, report, reply etc).

Would this be a safe thing to do? For example, I want to change my report text to an exclamation mark (!).

I have read up on them and everything seems safe according to guide I have read, however a friend of mine said it was not a safe thing to do. I would be interested to hear from the XenForo staff directly to see if it does or does not break the software.

Thanks :).

You can safely edit any phrases you wish - the content only, not the title.

They also support HTML so you can even replace text with images.

And if you love to play safe, you can create a new language, with English (US) as parent (if you use English as main language in your forum), so you had a child language. Call it "Test"

And now you can safely edit phrases in "Test" language.

Great new! Thanks so much I didn't know HTML was also supported. I tried inserting an image in replace of the text, however, nothing happened :(. This is the code I used:

Code:
<img src="/styles/spectrum/xenforo/flag.png" alt="Report Post" width="16" height="16">

I'm not sure why it wouldn't work if the area does support HTML. I have uploaded it in the correct area via FTP :(. Does anyone know why this is not working? Thanks.

Thanks for the tip. I ended up making a new language (English (UK)) so if I mess up this I can always revert back to the default until I figure out the issue ;).

The path may be incorrect.
Use a browser inspection tool to confirm.

Ah sorry about that I figure it out. For some reason when I used my custom newly made langauge "Engligh (UK)" it didn't change, yet when I altered "English (US)" it worked. Strange. It's cool i'll just stick with English (US) and have the other as a back-up :).
