Internet Explorer 9 Release Candidate Released

Funny enougth, when using FF and going to the D/L page it only gives you vista even when i was on win7.
Go to the page in IE and your get the option

There's not. I didn't find a Windows 7 version either, only Vista. Good that I still have Vista on this computer.
You're not missing anything. I'm not liking it much. On my JRT site, when I type in the editor box it expands height-wise with every letter I type.
i bet thats music to the ears of k&m

Hmmm, for the record i get that same behavior every now and then with FF to. SO i don't know for sure if that's exclusive to IE9

If MS had made IE9 compatible with WinXP we could all have had a party. Unfortunately they didn't, so we will have to deal with IErubbishVersion for years to come.

FAIL Microsoft, fail.
Windows XP is a nearly decade old operating system. How much longer should they keep supporting it? Windows 1.01 was supported from 1985 all the way until the end of 2001!

That said, I do like IE9 quite a bit. I probably won't use it as my default, everyday browser, much at least Windows users will now have a modern, HTML5-compliant browser out of the box. That's good for web developers and the web in general.

No, it doesn't work on a 10-year-old operating system.

Should I go complain to Apple that Safari 5 won't work on Mac OS 9?
Well Mac OS and OS X are very different OSes. And Safari 5 works on XP :)

Also let's not forget 66% of all Windows users is still running XP (44% of total market), while almost no one is running Mac OS 9. This should be an important factor when determining backward compatibility.

My guess is that MS is trying to force XP users to start using their latest OS by simply ignoring compatibility with XP in new software releases. It might backfire if XP users just start using a compatible browser.

I think the point was more that the internet itself and at least move forward. Instead we're stuck still trying to fight IE6, years after it's been released. Can we really just completely ignore IE6 on our sites?

How many people are still using IE6? XP can run up to IE8, and wasn't IE7 included in the SP3 update?

IE 9 is very fast in my experience. I'm a hard-core FF user, won't probably switch because of all the add-ons I'm currently using.
