XF 1.2 Install in root, sub-domain or sub-folder?

I just made a purchase and I'm indecisive on what installation practice is best advised.

Should I install the forum in root? as in www.mywebsite.com
or Should I install it as a sub-domain? like forums.mywebsite.com
Or is it better to install it under a sub-folder? like www.mywebsite.com/forums/

Note: If I'm not going with having the forums as the root folder; I'm planning to add a WordPress blog in the root and installation the forum as a subdomain/subforum. Is this not recommended?

If you plan to install WordPress in the root then a sub directory is probably the best place for the forum installation.

Be aware that using /forums/ will results in links with double /forums in the URL.
This site for example is installed in the /community directory: http://xenforo.com/community/forums/installation-upgrade-and-import-support.23/

URLs can however be changed using route filters but if you're going to change it, you might as well install it in that location to start with.

If you don't plan to have anything else in the root, I would install the forum there.

Thank you Brogan.
That was very helpful.

I'm going to go with installing the forums in the root and keep the blog as a subdomain (since the forum IS the purpose of the website after all).

Cheers!
