XF 2.2 Importing from SMF 2.0.5: wrong encoding

Hello,

I'm trying to import my old SMF 2.0.5 Forum in XenForo 2.2. I'm having an issue about character encoding: all data gets imported, but symbols (&, à, etc.) are replaced with ? in both thread titles and posts.

The source DB (MySQL) has latin1_swedish_ci collation for tables, but the forum should be configured in UTF-8. I tried both importing with latin1_swedish_ci and utf-8 when running the importer but the result was the same. I also tried with both latin1_swedish_ci and utf8_unicode_ci as the collation in the new database, but still no luck.

Any hint?

FWIW, I found a solution. I just had to unset the default utf-8 in both fields during the first stage of the importer.
