When you load the page does it open like that automatically? Or does it only enlarge like that if it is clicked?

The latter is the designed and expected behaviour. It's the same thing in posts and on desktops. An image fits the screen but you can enlarge it by clicking on it.

I think it opened normally, then the image enlarged. I assumed that clicking again would close it but it didn't.

However just tried again and it does close it. maybe a small issue with safari then.
