I'd like to buy my own, that's functionally similar, full UHD display, etc, but with simple cosmetic change to distinguish it from that one.

Just want to point out that they use an unsupported version of xenForo (xenForo 1). xenForo 2.2 is the latest.

I tried the free trial, but the free trial wasn't much like PF.com.

I'm not a technical expert at software. My expertise is in administering current events BBS.

I bought the domain earlier today.

Customize?
The main requirement is that it use full 16:9 screen. Many BBS use the central third of the computer screen. Why bother?
