XF 2.3 How to make XenForo 2.3 read-only?

Hi,

I'll be migrating my website from shared to VPS and want to keep traffic loss at minimum in the meantime. Is it possible to set XenForo to a read-olny mode, and then create a Full cPanel backup and restore on the other server and then enable access?

If there is no option in XenForo, can I set it via cPanel DB settings?

If I want read only temporarily I do that via registered user permissions set to never for posting, reply and DMs.

And uncheck the Enable registration setting.

On the Nginx web server, I always do this when doing major updates:

limit_except GET {
    deny  all;
}

We have Litespeed but I don't think we have access to LSWS panel on shared.

The procedure is for a "final" archiving of a forum, here it is a break that we are talking about. It would be a bit heavy for a few days off.

It would still work for what is wanted in this case without having to do manual changes or having to remember which group permissions to restore on the new server.

This is really the simplest way to go, but if you have 100K users - changing the registered permissions takes ages (well it does for us...)...

How is the number of users relevant if you just change 3permissions of only one user group?

I don't know. Updating anything in that user group just takes ages.

It did not work for me...

I would suspect some other issue then, not the number of users.

Rebuilding the permissions just takes time. You can see the progress.
