XF 1.4 How to link to "latest" in a forums thread

In our iOS app, we link to specific forum threads. We want to link to the latest current page. As new content is posted, the link cannot be constantly linking to page 3 for instance. Is there a way to append a URL to take you to the last current page?

There must be a way to do this ...

A really nasty way of doing it is to have the link point at page 99999 or some other realistically high number.

The canonicalisation of the page number means that would always redirect you to the highest page number there is.

If the URL is not visible in the app then this won't be a problem. Otherwise it's an ugly solution.
