XF 2.0 How to disallow animated gif avatars

I asked this previously re: xf1, does anyone know how to do this with xf2?

I am using built-in GD image library

If you’re using built in GD then as soon as the avatar is resized then the animation would be lost. You’d need Imagick to prevent the animation from being lost so it sounds like you’re using that rather than GD.

I guess it’s possible that if the user uploaded a gif that was exactly 96px x 96px then the medium size which is used in posts wouldn’t need to be resized and so it would retain its animation.

Either way, there’s no way to prevent it totally. If it’s something you explicitly don’t allow then you’ll just need to manage it through moderation and remove the avatar and tell them to upload a different one.

Could you not just remove the .gif extension type from Options, Attachments ?
That's for attachments and doesn't affect avatars.

@Gsk8 nothing has changed. Honestly I personally wouldn't care. But if it is that much of an issue then we recommend handling it through your terms and rules and the moderation tools which allow you to remove problematic avatars if required.
