How many banners is too much?

We currently have a fair amount of banners on our site, but we're constantly fully booked and have requests daily to advertise (a great problem to have)

I'm thinking of squeezing in some more banners, forum sponsors etc, but how many is too much.

Do you have some examples of how big forums do this etc?

More than three adslots - imo.

You can go a background Skin, plus three adslots. ie Four ads loaded.

That is a fair weight of ads. Once you go past three adslots on a page, you look pimped, yields drop and loyal members think it all sux and either drop off, or install adblockers.

Why not have the banners rotate between two or three slots?
