We close threads after a certain amount of time, due to information quickly becoming stale. We get request to reopen the stale threads years after the fact, and a few of the staff cave in and do it, yet I'm making changes so that won't happen again.
So, what I would prefer to do is create a link at the bottom of a closed thread. Whether it's linked text, or a button, that's not a big deal--I can figure that out.
But what I want the link to do is 1) create a new thread in the same forum, with 2) a link in the first post of the thread (which unfurls) that points back to the original thread.
I don't know if I need to have an addon created to do this (my coding days have long passed), or if there is a way to build a URL which will do this (which seems unlikely, given that I want to put the link in the first post in the new thread). Optionally it could include a modified version of the original thread title (like adding the text '[Update] ' to the title).
Thoughts?
