XF 1.4 How do you turn off email notifications by default?

When a user replies to a post, they then get an email for every reply to that post. They are not liking it.

How do I turn it off so that users have to opt into receive emails instead of opt out?

ACP > Options > User Registration

Change the default User Registration values relating to emails to suit your needs.

So which one of these setting will not send an email to a user after they have replied to a thread.
They would however, like to receive an email to a thread they have watched.

Watch threads when creating or replying - setting it to No or Yes (ie not setting it to Yes - with email) will prevent emails for this.

They would however, like to receive an email to a thread they have watched.

Users can choose this for themselves when they watch a thread.
