How do you handle members who use AI in their posts?

Here an idea,.... just like the quote/code buttons that provide a nice entry box, have one for AI that a user can select. Ask them to write a little accompanying content by themselves to support the AI content, and ask any AI responses to be pasted into the "AI" box.

Of course that may not be universally accepted as a practice. But humans ya know, do what humans do.

In the end, it's still a discussion or a post, and it's definitely more accurate since it's written by artificial intelligence based on what the user wanted to say...
If it was it would be kind of ok - just that it isn't. We all know that AIs are guessing machines and often enough they are really bad at guessing... On the other hand loads of people blindly belief whatever an AI spits out as they consider it as kind of an "autority". And then some people just c+p what the AI spat out directly to the forum w/o any thinking, let alone reframing, adjusting or conclusions and expect other forum members to manually deal with that. This creates an amount of disbalance in a discussion that is not desirable. In my forum it has been a rare occurrence until now but what I can clearly say is that almost all my forum members harshly dislike the posting of AI slop by others and the reactions are alike. It destroys a debating culture and a culture of human interaction.

It's already a miracle that users post in forums. I'd say don't overwhelm them with unnecessary rules...
The question is if it is unnecessary. If you and your forum members clearly dislike posting of AI slop and still some do post it: Why not having a clear rule? Seems rather useful. Too many rules are buerocratic and lower engagement and fun. A lack rules works if there is a collective common sense of what is ok and what is not. As in any social group this will break quickly if only few people don't stick to it and w/o any rules a new member has no orientation of what is considered ok and what is not.

In the end: If a forum member decides do leave b/c he is not allowed to post AI slop it is probably not a member that one would miss. On the other hand: It is well known that most people dislike reading AI slop and that they come to the forum b/c of human interaction. As a consequence they will leave or at least lower their engagement and responses if posting AI slop becomes the norm. I doubt that this would be better than simply set a rule to disallow posting AI slop.

Obviously once more it all depends from the individual forum, it's culture and it's participants.

This could be done through something like a somewhat beefed up "report" button. Would need an add on though. Could be a possible extension to the Crowd Moderation add on by @Xon :

That is an excellent addon - I use it. Basically it’s user reporting and takedown - if a member reports a post, it is removed and sent to the approval queue. There are settings for what level of member can do this - ie trusted ones with a certain length of time or whatever.

That would rely on members deciding something might be AI

Seeing an increase in the number of posts that have AI parts in them. Still not huge, but I suspect it will become an increasing thing to think about.

Should members who use AI to compose their post be required to put the AI generated parts in some kind of AI-quote tag?

In the longer term, as people start using AI more and more to generate all their writing, how will this affect forums and the human connection?
I don't personally care if people use AI to help them write their post better, grammar, spelling, formatting, etc. Do not care. Sometimes people can't find the right words to express themselves, AI helps with this. I think there is a point where AI is writing the content versus AI is helping them write their content. I do nothing if members use AI to help them express themselves. I take action if someone is using AI to troll.
