I want to migrate my forum to a VPS
what is the best OS to use on VPS? Ubuntu or Almalinux

And is Contabo any good to use for Xenforo?

Depending on your requirements and personal preference, I can't comment about AlmaLinux, as I only use Ubuntu.

Both Red Hat (AlmaLinux or Rocky) and Ubuntu have very long support windows, so you're good with either from that point of view. I've found Red Hat variants to be a bit better from the point of view of stability, and a larger amount of hosting support, but frankly you'll not go wrong with either so long as it supports whatever you plan to use for either a web panel, cli solution like CentMinMod, or just plain cli.

I have been using AlmaLinux for some time and it works great.

Based on bad reviews mostly from lowendtalk.com and also my own experience.
