Help with bridge/add-on to expressionengine.com

Hi XF,

Can we get an evaluation copy of xenforo just for the purpose of having my developer scope the work required to create a bridge/add-on/converter from expressionengine CMS?

I currently run a membership forum that is built into my CMS, expressionengine (http://expressionengine.com/forums/). My forum is http://www.bionicturtle.com/forum

I am among many expressionengine.com users are frustrated with the built-in forum. I've recruited some EE users, including myself, who will fund the development so we can bridge/convert our forums to XF. If the bridge can be done, there will be an automatic audience of potential customers

Also, if my developers need any particular help on this, is interface with XF possible, if needed?
... if it can be done, we will gladly make the core EE add-in available free for other EE users

Thanks for any assistance.

Ark, I contacted David a few times and he promised to provide details - but then never did. I can only assume he is either too busy or not interested in sharing the details. I think he was only doing the import anyway.

However, in the past month I have been exploring and testing various EE to XF scenarios with one of the resident experts here and am pleased to report that we had great success! There were quite a few obstacles, but they have been worked out.....

BUT, this is specifically for an import or conversion from the EE forums to XF - which is what David did.

I know of nothing which would provide seamless integration although it is surely possible - maybe even using a generic member management program like Amember.

If you are looking for something like that Vbee add-on which exists for EE / vBulletin, you might want to send the developers of it an email. If they think there is a market they very well might duplicate it for EE/XF

In the meantime, if you or anyone else wants any info on the testing and importing of EE Forums to XF Forums, send me a PM (start a conversation). We intend to move to XF in the next month or so, after which time I'll post the whole experience here.

Great, sounds good. Keep us updated on your progress! I was interested in a dual-login situation at the bare minimum, where logging into either EE or XF would log you into the other system, and synchronise the member accounts. I'll continue to keep an eye out for any other options in the future.

I moved my forum to EE and would be glad to share any experiences. We did it successfully including moving all posts, attachments, members, passwords, etc....

I'm not sure if EE uses openID - I can be sure that the old version does not (1.x), but don't know about 2.X.

It looks like some 2.X add-ons may support OpenID, but I don't think it is baked in...

I don't use any dual sign-ins, just keeping the old EE for certain parts of the site and the new XF for the forums.

Hey craigiri, I'd be interested in hearing more for sure.

Thanks for sharing!

I moved from EE 1.7 to XF - but ONLY the Discussion Forum.
Ours was a very large forum.

If you need to move or bridge the other parts of EE, I cannot help much - although I was able to separately test moving EE articles to WP.

If you let me know exactly what you need to do, I can offer the suggestions and experiences I have with that!

How finished all this story at the end? (n)

Happy ending!
;)

Jake has all the rules and fixes for the importer for moving forums from EE.....and even did my passwords. We moved most other parts of EE to the XF framework. EE is still running some fixed articles and our lite wiki, which I will probably move to Xencarta. The articles are not important since they are not editable by our users, but someday I will probably move them to a template or CMS add-on.

In short, my site now can be said to run on XF. Visits are up as is adsense revenue. The users love the XF features.

So you just converted/imported from EE, correct? No bridging? I think most of us in the thread were interested in a dual-login/bridged solution.

Congrats on getting everything converted though! That's a huge deal. Good luck.

Yap... that is actually the title of this post :)

I was wandering if Xenforo could be bridged to Expression Engine with an add-on. Since the only way I know for SSO is using aMember and their bridge solutions for Expression Engine and Xenforo.

Yeah, sorry - mine was a move!
I paid for, but never upgraded, to EE 2+. It seemed like a total disaster....but that's another story!

I had picked EE (well, pmachine before that) as a forum because I thought just the forum part was as good or better than any...way back in 2003. It was later that I started using the other parts.

Not to rain on any parades, but I highly doubt that a new XF developer will work on and support such a solution since EE is very very rarely even mentioned here.

My suggestion, though, is to contact these guys:

Here was the email that I had a conversation with them from
ian.ebden@eevolution.co.uk

They make a VB-EE bridge and are somewhat familiar with XF. If they are still around and coding, they may be able to see a good opportunity in EE-XF now.

Thanks to a sponsor who will be named upon live release, we have finally achieved a Xenforo <> EE bridge [XFEE] in a similar way to our VBEE product http://www.eevolution.co.uk/products/vbee . The solution is in private BETA but should be released to the public next week. If you are interested in knowing when this will be released then please contact us through our website or PM. This originated from a long outstanding request that we raised in 2011 on https://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/183513/ . To clarify, this is a bridge / dual login solution where members can exist in either both systems, with different password or just one system.
