Which shared hosting do you recommend for Xenforo?

Hi,
I am looking for a good shared hosting package to use when purchasing my Xenforo license. I have prior to this been using Swedish hosting for my websites but since this new forum is aimed at USA and UK I am looking for international hosting packages.
I am comparing the biggest players, Hostgator, Godaddy, Bluehost and Dreamhost. I understand that many people are using Hostgator with Xenforo and I am leaning towards using them, but I have read that they have gotten quite bad after being acquired by EIG. Is anybody here using Hostgator and have experienced any difference in support and uptime since they have been acquired?
At the moment I am mainly choosing between the Hostgator business package for about $11/monthly, or GoDaddy Ultimate for $7.50/monthly. Bluehost seems good but only offers one shared package at $3.95/monthly which I presume must have a hard time living up to the same standard as the premium shared packages mentioned above. Dreamhost I don't know so much about and their shared hosting at $8.95/monthly.

Which shared hosting do you use for your Xenforo forum?

Do a search on the name of each of the shared-hosting providers you mentioned. The question has been answered repeatedly in these forums, host by host, and I don't feel repetitious today.

I am in the U.S. & have an account & one XF site at a Swedish ISP (Oderland). If you already have a Swedish ISP and are happy with them, use them. I doubt anyone on this side of the pond will notice the difference. Oderland was well reviewed when I was looking around, and I've had near zero issues with them (PayPal functionality at renewal time was the only significant one, and obviously not an issue in day-to-day performance, and they promised to get it fixed, will find out next renewal. Direct credit charge worked, just had to use a M/C instead of my preferred AMEX via PayPal.)

On the other hand, one site with Mike Edge will be cheaper and less limited than what Swedish ISP's typically charge.
 
Been using Hostgator for a few years, generally satisfied with them, have had way better performance than the previous host I was using. Only negative thing is that they moved my site to a new server, without letting me know, they just sent me an email letting me know it had started and one when it was done. I think there was a little bit downtime in regards to that, so I was a little bit annoyed that they didn't let me know before they started it.

Other than that, I have been happy with them, but it is a shared host as any other, with it's limitations. You should look at what fits your budget and see if there are any showstoppers for those who do.
 
I have never had an issue with HostGator myself, they are cheap and reliable for small sites.

That's not to take away from any other hosting provider, I am sure that there are many great hosts out there, including xfhost who specialise in Xenforo hosting, but if you are after cheap shared hosting then I can say my experience of HostGator has been the most positive hosting experience I have had in 12 years of web ownership.

My BIGGEST complaint with HostGator was that they defaulted (when I was with them) to PHP v5.2.x when 5.3 was standard - and even after 5.2.x was EOL. Yes, you can use an htaccess code to enable 5.3.x on YOUR site - but what about the other sites on that node that are NOT using 5.3.x. Just another attack vector waiting to be targeted and if they compromise the server then they compromise you.

You could be right, I tend to avoid the technical side of hosting completely as I am totally clueless and have found a little knowledge is often a dangerous thing in the tech world.

I have been on all sorts of hosting before, including those who are reputed to be uber leet hosting companies and have been hacked, compromised or otherwise screwed over by them all, some have dealt with it better than others, but in the last 4 years on HG I have been left alone.

Not saying that I can't be hacked (probably will now I have said this, always some smart alec ready to have a crack) on HostGator, but I was pointing out that I have not to date had any issues with them at all.

Ps... Script kiddies don't hack me, it's boring and beneath us both.

@MagnusB , @Kim , @Tracy Perry, have you noticed any changes to how fast your Hostgator hosting is running lately and/or any decline in customer support? I'm asking since I was going to go with Hostgator and their Business Plan, but became a little unsure after I read that people complained that the hosting had gotten slower and with worse support after Hostgator was acquired by Endurance International Group.

Considering I dumped them a few months ago and went with a dual L5520 24GB dedicated server? I'm running MUCH faster. :p
Base server was only $55 a month - I ended up getting 3 of them (each with different drive arrangements).
Support, when I was there, was just OK.
 
I was with hostgator abd were happy.. But once my forum strted growing.. The sql connection would max out very often and we had downtime every now and then..

I decided to jump over to mike's xfhost.net.. There were few outages when he was just starting out xfhost, may be coz of the experimentation he does with the server config.. But after that... Running forums has never been easier.For 4 more dollars that is
 
Not really noticed any performance drop lately, at least not perceivable. Haven't needed customer support for quite some time, so I can't really talk about that, but the times I have contacted in the past, they were pretty responsive.

Yes, it definitely seem to have gotten worse after Brent Oxley sold the company, he was a good guy and actually cared for it, but you know how it is, a couple of millions and be free, I worked at their Houston office back in the day. :p
