Is the gallery as versatile as the forum and resource manager when it comes down to who can see and use the gallery features and who'd be locked out?

I.E I want the gallery to be admin-posting only and preferably only members to see all the photos but the album cover so to speak. Is any of this possible?

Yes, it is all controlled via permissions, so simple to achieve that.

Thanks for the tip but I cannot seem to fix the settings needed to manage to post any images into the Example category

The permissions follow the same principle used throughout XF.

Revoke it for the Registered usr group, allow it for the other user group(s).

Another group you're in may have it set to never. Be careful to use revoked.
