In a somewhat surprising turn of events, this actually appears to have been fixed upstream by Froala.

This wasn't in the changelogs, we just routinely updated the source to the latest version as we do periodically and somewhere between 3.2.5 and 3.2.7 which we're now using, one of the most annoying issues has been resolved.
