XF 1.4 Forum Moderator Question

Hi, I recently created a custom Forum Moderator user group because to fill in for the custom image I currently have in place. Does this mean, they will have moderating permissions to all categories and forums even if I assign them as a forum moderator in the node tree section? Or will the user group permissions set on the forum moderator user group only apply to the category/forum they've been selected to moderate?? I know this is confusing, but can anyone clear the confusion??

Permissions are cumulative.
Anything applied at the user group level will apply globally.

Set the user group permissions to the lowest common permissions for all moderators, then assign forum specific permissions as required.
