XF 2.3 Forum Issue - Resolved

Out of the blue users started reporting slowness/“parsing” errors, etc.

I made a couple of test posts and one took like 10 seconds to post and on another I got this:

IMG_3387.webp

So, I saw that the add-on signature once might have been a problem and I went into add-ons in the ACP to try and disable it. If I click on the gear icon for any add-on I get the following:

IMG_3388.webp

No idea. Do I need to submit a support ticket?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Don't worry about it. We've all been there.

I asked because if you had access to your Admin Panel you could disable said add-0n and hopefully that would have been the end of it.

The signature once add-on, is it this one by any chance?

I am asking because it says there that it's not compatible with the latest version of XenForo and php. A word of advice, if I may, whenever you install a third party add-on or style, make sure that it's compatible with whatever version of XenForo and php that you are using. Otherwise it will cause issues.
Appreciate the advice. Will definitely pay attention to stuff like this after my first major incident.

I’m just depressed there’s nothing I can do about it now for potentially several hours or God forbid days.

Most other hosting companies allow you to have full control over the files
Xenforo isn't just offering hosting, though. They are basically offering Xenforo as SaaS. They manage the application, rather than just offering a place to park your license. And SaaS rarely lets users have direct file and db access. The whole idea is that they manage the application as well as the infrastructure. But SaaS then also needs to come with support and SLAs. I haven't looked closely at XF Cloud to see what they offer there. It is too expensive for my site anyhow.

The issue with XF here is the existence of AddOns. Either XF would not allow add ons on Cloud (which would limit the possibilities drastically) or make clear that it is in the responsibility of the customer if he installs add ons w/o paying attention or having a clue and then shoots himself in the foot (as it seems to have happened here). With many hosting companies an incident like that would have been paid support, not included in the regular contract as it is clealy caused by the customer. On the other hand, given the value proposition of XF Cloud it could be a fair expectation that only add ons can be installed that XF has checked and given a green card. Would probably be good as I'd assume a lot of the Cloud customers are part of the "techological innocent" cohort. ;)
