The font sizes are a lot bigger/thicker in firefox than in chrome and internet explorer. Does this happen to anyone else? I am wondering if it could be a setting on my part.

You're logged in in FireFox, but not elsewhere, so you're seeing different views (unread vs read).

Unread is still a fair bit thicker in my firefox (3.6.8)

That's just browser font rendering differences. Not much we can do about it.
