You can use the JS renderer to accomodate places which aren't phrased or don't support template syntax:

My message was in reference to custom user fields, where you can use the "Value display HTML" setting rather than any template. It should work in other places too though, depending on what you want to achieve. If you're using templates it's better to just use <xf:fa icon="..." />.

I'm converting my infinite icon list and I see that many Pro icons I have in XF2.2 are not displayed anymore in XF2.3.

These, for example, are just a few of it:

\e06c --> triangle-exclamation
\f5b8 --> face-smile
\f63d --> screen-users
\e065 --> house-chimney-user

Has the XenForo FA Licence changed for 2.3?

Or perhaps is there a way to force it using Font Awesome 5 instead of FA6?

I'm not sure, but I faced a similar problem.
Apparently, there are issues with fas consisting of multiple words.
‘triangle’ would work, even as “exclamation”, but not ‘triangle-exclamation’.

Font Awesome improvements​

On almost every page we serve currently, we include as many as five different variants of the Font Awesome 5 Pro icon library. That's up to 8,000 icons split across their different variations, but on any given page we actually use... a lot less than that. The file size of each of these fonts is up to 200KB with an additional 40KB worth of CSS.

We have always wanted to ship a much smaller subset of icons but when admins, style designers and add-on developers have the full suite of icons available to them, this can be a challenge. In particular, working with...

That's what I've read on another reply while searching. And I thought this was the reason, until I tested my pizza-slice icon and it showed up.

Looking at the SVG files folder (in /styles/fa), some icons names are inverted: for example triangle-exclamation is there as exclamation-triangle.svg while others are missing.

The display codes are different in 2.3

Yes, I'm already converting my CSS, and I'm testing every icon by just changing the same row in the EXTRA.less over and over. Some shows, some don't...

You need to use this to find icon names: https://fontawesome.com/v5/search as an example:

exclamation-triangle = v5
triangle-exclamation = v7

XenForo uses version 5.

I'm aware that FA5 was used in XF2.2 (since all icons was showing in previous version) while XF2.3 comes with FA6


By the way I'm already using the Font Awesome site singe long time for searching the icons I need, and I'm also using it for converting the icons for this update, but thanks for the hint anyway.
I'm afraid this is the only solution for the moment, I'll have to find the replacement for some icon that I'm almost sure it's going to be missing...

They never switched to FA6 for licensing purposes.
They just changed the way they used FA icons in 2.3:

For the moment, only the "new" telegram-plane from f3fe code (FA 5.0.0) is not supported anymore (I had it on XF2.2).
