Feeding new threads in a specified forum to an external page

Hi all,

Ok, I've had a re-think on my site. I'm basically in need of a way to show news on a news page of my site, but the news posts will basically be the first post of a thread, in a specified forum.

So for example I'll have a forum called 'News', and some kind of feed will pull the contents of the first post in each thread to create news posts.

I'm looking for some advice on the best way to do this. I thought about RSS but as far as I can tell, it cant be done with the current RSS implementation. Another thought was some kind of JSON feed.

I was hoping someone could give me some ideas on which way I need to look to get this working.
