Event Calendar

For a new project I want to use XenForo on, we are in definite need of a Calendar that can handle events that members can join by themselves. For the past years I was pretty amazed and frustrated by the utter uselessness of Calendar systems like the one in vBulletin and ditto products. Come on people... we are living in the social media era and for those sites that need an integrated Calendar, I hope that Xenforo can provide us with a good solution next year.

.... and that is why I am seriously impressed by this Add-On from Jaxel/8wayRun.com: http://xenforo.com/community/threads/8wayrun-com-xenatendo-events.8670/ . Take a look here for a live demo: http://www.8wayrun.com/events/.

Many people like myself have been pleading/begging for this kind of valuable functionality to be build into vBulletin for years (that's a 5-year old request) and I wholeheartedly hope that XenForo can become the first forum product that actually offers this valuable functionality to it's customers. Being it a stock function or possible as an officially supported paid add-on module.

It's an event plugin not a calendar mod - jaxel likes to be very clear on that don't get confused!

Yeah, you are right. But this alone is already so much more valuable then the utter uselessness of the stock Calendars most forum packages come with. However, I also believe that combining this valuable event functionality with a calendar, it will do so much good to xenforo powered websites that are in serious need of this.

I tried to make that point to Jaxel about making it the best calendar/event plugin but he was very clear he didn't want to go that route - shame really he could/would have the Market cornered!

I.... he could/would have the Market cornered!

Well, let's hope XenForo Ltd. sees a market in this. I am aware that a lot of sites (maybe even the majority?) are not in need of such a up-to-date Calendar/Event system, so my hopes are -unfortunately- not that high. But by all means, look at Facebook and all other major social platforms out there: every single one of them offers a Calendar with Event attendance functionality. And rightfully so. It is a logic and invaluable part of social media and since XF is aiming for this market... maybe there is a little spark of hope left.

Now this would be perfect for me and I would be happy to pay extra for it.

I am getting excited here - lol.

See my latest post on the [8wayRun.Com] XenAtendo (Events) thread, if you can add those features there's a $100 donation from me. :)

I tried clicking the link and I got this messge

8WayRun.Com - Soulcalibur Community - Error

The requested page could not be found.

The link has changed, as the calendar now offers both weekly & monthly views, so instead of:
http://www.8wayrun.com/events/calendar/

Use http://www.8wayrun.com/events/monthly OR http://www.8wayrun.com/events/weekly

Or if you want to see it in action with a few more events added, feel free to click here:
http://doctorwatson.info/sussexforums/index.php?events/

:)

it is sad that we do not have an "Events Calendar" in XenForo but need to rely on third-party add-ons, which makes it then quite hard to also get the language-translations for third-party add-ons.
Would be much better to have this included in XenForo, which would make things much easier..... especially getting such features also in multiple languages.

We all know XenAtendo.
It's great, but it's too much for some sites.
Most sites have less than 20 events per year .... and when your calendar is mostly blank ... it reflects poorly on your site.

Idea: use a Jquery addon as a Calendar and embed it into a page via iframe.

Example:
jquery.addon.calendar.webp

Demo:
http://codecanyon.net/item/google-ical-xml-event-list-calendar-for-php/full_screen_preview/2560605

When you click an item it expands ...
event.list.link.to.discussion.webp
You can link the Event listing to a thread for more picture and details of the event.

It's only $12.

Google, iCal & XML Event List Calendar for (music) festivals, seminars and business events. Built on jQuery and PHP, this calendar grabs your events from your Google Calendar, another iCal (.ics) stream or just an XML file, and turns them into a comprehensive list. Events support locations and include Twitter and Facebook links to share the event on your social networks. Skins are included to adjust the calendar to any existing website. Caching is integrated to save bandwidth and increase speed, and everything is Search Engine Optimized (SEO).
