Email Server Setup

IMO over the next year or so there are going to be a lot more options for hosting your own email. It seems that there are a lot of good scripts out there that are just shy of being production ready or are missing a few features.

Like I don't think even MiaB supports SNI for mail services like cPanel does.

Dovecot, Postfix, PostFixAdmin,Roundcube.. works rather well is configured for virtual users and virtual domains.
Running on a CentOS box.

BTW, @Sheratan, @TJA has it working on his setup. Not going to comment on the new works I learned though.:whistle:
Roundcube and Horde, both failed to me. I guess my security settings are too "paranoid"

Well, I'm the only person who use email so... ;)

what about their security bothered you?
Nothing, just some of the function they need to make "change password" working are disabled by me and I dont have any desire to enable it. I can enable it without any problem but I just dont want :D

One more question about MiaB... (I gave it a go on a VPS and I was really impressed but I destroyed it before I remembered to check) Does it allow SNI for mail services? For example allowing encrypted SMTP with SSL certificate on multiple domains with a single IP?

Is there a specific reason you need SNI for it? What is the scenario that is causing you to require it?

Just so that each email domain can connect to the mail server using the same domain securely. I know that this isn't necessary because I can use one domain but it is pretty much just for appearances.

Ex.

example@domain1.com --> mail.domain1.com (SSL)
example@domain2.com --> mail.domain2.com (SSL)

Yeah, I might just abandon this goal since it seems to be more trouble than it is worth at the moment. I know cPanel supports it, I am not sure for which mail server but Postfix does not.

Think Exim is used with cPanel - but don't take that as gospel since I hate the thing.

Hehehehe... got it working well enough for me to use to do this for the site (VIP access only to forum email using the domain username @ thebent.bike format.
Was going to do it a while ago but kept putting it off since I don't have a lot of users - did it for another person and figure might as well break down and do mine also.

Wow, that is really cool. Does it tie into the forum database or are you creating each account manually?

Currently have to create each account manually. It probably would not be hard to create a bridge, but I don't want every user that signs up to get it. There is a participation requirement before you earn the right to the webmail ability. If you aren't a member of that group, you don't even see the tab.
