Do you make money from forums?

I am making money in 6 months life my forum.
It all depends on the content you are going to manage on the forum.
My content is related to electronics (notebook, desktop), about my profession I make a living from electronics, I have a store.
When I decide to take everything seriously and create a forum, the result will be great.
The investment is really big, my goal is also big.
I do not use advertising, all expenses are paid privately.

Those who have a goal can be robin or profession, it will be great. 😉😉😉

Do you make money from forums,

Yes.

especially newly created ones?

It depends in how much time you spend on them and the strategy behind it. If you planned your community and your monetization before, analyzing trends, ROI, etc. you can monetize a community in her first 100 days probably. Basically "your mileage may vary".

You can do a lot of research on a topic before opening a community about it. So you can understand where others have failed or succeeded.
You can plan a user acquisition strategy, a way for business to interact with your community and where they can find value doing so...etc etc.

Anyone could create a forum, but not many can strategize and make it profitable.

You can also write exactly how much you earn if you want?

It depends from the niche.

Is it profitable?

Yes. Costs are very contained if you know how. And you can manage the most by yourself.

I used to make enough money to pay for my hobby. A few track weekends a year. It hasn't paid much in the past 5-10 years. I was relying on site supporters to cover the hosting fee.

Technically yes. My sites (well technically one site that makes the others possible) makes thousands of dollars per year... But I spend most of the money it earns on developers and writers putting it all back into the site. I have zero ads - all my income is from user upgrades... but the user upgrades give access to exclusive data and bonus articles. It's not just for silly forum benefits.

Yes, you can make money with your forum. Though - you need it to be active and have at least 10 respected members representing your region/niche, 500+ real registered members and some 10k+ posts. That is enough. The rest is identifying your clients, networking and old good sales :)

For me: we prosper when I do sales, and totally opposite when sales are neglected (currently the case) :)

As usual, the underlying issue is always the same: with what you're trying to do, are you solving the problems of people willing to spend to solve them? If the answer is yes, then what separates you from profit isn't whether you choose a forum, a blog, or a public restroom, but rather how much you're willing to invest and the quality of your content, which is ultimately what attracts the most people.
Unfortunately, many fail because they don't understand blogging or foruming as a business venture, which, as such, always requires investment to improve their visibility, update their services, and improve the quality and, above all, the safety of their facilities.
Anyone who wastes time arguing whether blogs or forums are better demonstrates a lack of understanding. There are blogs that get zero visitors and forums that can buy houses. It's all about knowing how to think entrepreneurially.
If you start a blog and fill it with personal rants, you'll end up with zero visitors, just like you would with forums. If, on the other hand, you're selling solutions to problems people are willing to spend money on, either a blog or a forum is fine, or even better, both. Because we also need to dispel the myth that one excludes the other. Who said that? It's also important to work on making the structure user-friendly, which is a technical undertaking. In short, you have to think of yourself as a host who wants to welcome people who will need to sit on comfortable chairs and armchairs, so you'll need to create structures that are also visible on mobile devices, perhaps even considering a native or mixed-method app (like Flutter or React).
So, to sum up: do you have an idea? Is your idea useful? Are people willing to spend money for what you offer? If so, do what you have to do, without hesitation.
