Heard it was doing a 1,500 ft flyover today. Looks like it also has an escort.

Indeed it does They did a few passes over D.C. and Arlington and then they headed towards the Smithsonian Air and Space museum in Dulles (which I recently went to and is equally awesome).

I'd love to someday see the inside of a shuttle. I really wanted to see a launch but I never made it down there.

I wonder if they plan on opening it up once it gets to the museum. That would be really cool. I'd definitely go back there again. Also, would love to see a launch.

I almost didn't click on this thread because I thought it was going to be, "Look what I found while I was a passenger on a 747!" Instead it was LITERALLY the Discovery on a 747!

Really, really cool! The closest I came was having Air Force One fly overhead on 9/11 on its way to the Air Force base here in Omaha. It was the first and only plane in the air for DAYS and was freaky to see.

That's like Fox New's title, no mention that it's actually being carried by a 747. lol

By the shape of the tail, looks like that's a T-38 escorting it. I believe they always use those on the piggy back shuttle flights to monitor the shuttle/747 for any in flight issues.

Cool to see the shuttles flying one last time. It's a shame the cost has caught up with NASA in light of recent economic times. Wonder if this is how it felt at the end of the 60's when no one was sure when we'd be going places again. I think the private sector is probably the biggest future for space. But it's still kind of a shame to me :/ The shuttle has been going into orbit since I was 4 years old, and now it's gone.

Not sure about the Smithsonian but you can go inside at Kennedy.
Sucks I won't get to see any more launches out my window anymore. Probably the best thing about living in Florida.
