Lmaoooo @ the disaster that was vb 4.1.4. it destroyed a lotta sites including my own. took me several weeks to recover.Amen.
IPB is a resource hog; page loads sucks - Everything from the front end, to the ACP side - I couldn't bear staying in an IPB site. I was offered an admin role by a legacy reborn to take his xbox site to the next level. Once I was made admin, I took a gander and tinkered around with IPB. To my horror, I checked out the ACP to find out just how fast or how powerful it is... I sat there for minutes just to load a ACP page. Really? Here I was thinking vB4 was slow... Now IPB, too? It almost made me cry just seeing it load.
It just reminded me of vB4.j
You don't have to say any more. I think half of the people that posted on this thread has seen how horrendous vB4 was. I was a vB3/vB4 customer until 4.1.4 broke my entire site into shambles. I wasted almost around $200 dollars on this, and the worst part is, when I upgraded vB3 into vB4 - It killed my most expensive, my most visited website. In a few months, I transferred to xenForo and am the happy with it. Google pushed my site up on top and above the others.
The best part is? No redirection required! Hah!
You should've cared that IB owns vBulletin. They will charge you again, and not in a good way. vB5 is just around the corner, and when you upgrade, it will come with a price.
What was the problem ?Lmaoooo @ the disaster that was vb 4.1.4.
It broke a lot of modifications and had lots of bugs. I almost gave up. If any of you had to go through that and made it through I commend you. What was the problem ?
I never upgraded past 4.0.1 !
Sounds like every other release !It broke a lot of modifications and had lots of bugs.
It was large scale. People were even complaining about it on theadminzone.comSounds like every other release !
I guess you mean the scale of the problems.
Any mods in particular ? Like a popular one ?
In my case, my vB3 instance that ran CODForums had a lot of hacks. Half of them are little-known hacks, and the other half are very well known, popular ones.Any mods in particular ? Like a popular one ?
Okay, so vBulletin 4 has been working for quite a while until the latest update, in which I applied the 4.1.4 update... Then all of a sudden, the instance got real buggy fast. So, at that time, I was frustrated, I didn't need it at that point. I was at vBulletin forums trying to find solutions. Meanwhile, I was speaking to one of the "Staff" that recently got hired, but before he has berated me - and he still did it during his tenure as Staff. Someone else defended him and tried to tarnish my name, and my reputation. I then got into a heated battle with him, then Steve got into it and warned me immediately without paying attention to the previous posts.
I went over this with Steve because he's been warning me over small things, such as being warned for a post in which I got into heated battle with other members - T'was an old post. 4 months old. I fought with the higher-ups above Steve, but they were on his side. So when this new warning came on, I decided to fight against Steve, directly. He warned me again, this time, he quickly banned me. I sent a support ticket, lo and behold; the senior operations manager was on his side.
I was given an opportunity to be refunded - I was surprised, and I was skeptical about it, so I was sarcastic about it.Few days later, Voila!
I used it to pay for some xenforo licenses, and so CODForums moved to xenForo!
That was then and this is now.It broke a lot of modifications and had lots of bugs. I almost gave up. If any of you had to go through that and made it through I commend you.
Yeah back then vb updates screwed up my site and now no xf updates screw up my site (mainly cause there are none). That was then and this is now.
And since the topic is vB vs Xenforo, I can honestly say I had a minor problem and was helped via ticket almost immediately. We went back and forth exploring the problem and it was my settings.
It took all of an hour to resolve.
As far as the RM vs vb.org.
Nothing really interests me here. Not yet anyway.
I agree. For a long time vB4 was 1 step forward and 2 steps back.Yeah back then vb updates screwed up my site and now no xf updates screw up my site (mainly cause there are none).![]()
Yea, I had a run in with a scammer who had a very posh looking Vbulletin theme site
Sadly, the mods removed any mention of my warnings from both forums (org and com) and as such, others were scammed as a result.
It's sad really, but such is life I guess![]()
