For those of you who manage your own setup using Debian or just prefer it as a desktop....

Debian 7 has been released

http://www.debian.org

I've got a few people here who wanted to know when and I thought posting this publicly would make it easy to tell everyone.

Its a solid build too. I've upgraded 5 VPS servers so far and no issues. :)

I've been snipped. Someone posted this before me (on XenForo)

http://xenforo.com/community/threads/soon-no-more-being-squeezed.49842/

Of course it took me a while to connect the dots from the playful thread title.
Figured YOU at least would know about being Squeezed and getting Wheezy from it. :ROFLMAO:
With it having 5.4.x of PHP and the fact that I haven't seen anybody reliably compile the php5-geoip module I think I'm going to have to hold off for a bit. I may just do the minimal system upgrade - but need to check what all that will impact.

Just checked... and it looks like it IS now fully supported... so, time to start doing some reading. I'm assuming it's a simple matter of adding the Wheezy repositories to the sources.list then doing a apt-get dist-upgrade?
And leaving the squeeze repository in the sources list until it is fully done?

I'll be updating my guide once Dotdeb.org also updates their sources. Will include user friendly instructions on how to do a system OS upgrade on a working server.

But for people who have been only using Debian 6 stock (no outside sources) the upgrade is as simple as doing this http://xenforo.com/community/threads/debian-server-setup.35066/page-2#post-533175

Yep... I noticed that Percona hasn't upgraded to wheezy yet... when I went to change the source.list it gave a 404 error. I think I'll hold off until everything is moved over (dotdeb and percona). I already have the sources.list modified with the wheezy sections commented out. :p

Its why I've not updated my guide yet. I don't want to confuse people and lord knows, someone would be fullish enough to try to update without waiting or knowing what they're doing.

I'd say about more than 1/2 the people I help setup servers for; wanted to keep things simple on a stock install. So they can get started right away (either on their own or I can do it for them). :)

Yep... the only reason I use dotdeb is for the latest nginx and Percona for their mysql server. If it wasn't for that I'd be using the stock stuff myself.

I have upgraded my server and I had some issue with dovecot, fortunately I managed to solve it without touching configs. Some permission changes and formatting in users.conf and it works like a charm. The memory usage now is lower and the sites load faster.

The hardening options in package compilations are great also.

Great job, Debian!

None, haven't upgraded yet. I thought DotDeb (nginx packages) hadn't yet been updated for Wheezy? And thus no nginx updates if problems were found with it under Wheezy.
http://www.dotdeb.org

Updated their repository (see for yourself)
http://packages.dotdeb.org/dists/wheezy/

Nginx is included ;)

Edit:
PHP:
#Dotdeb.org
deb http://packages.dotdeb.org wheezy all
deb-src http://packages.dotdeb.org wheezy all

And you should remove this
PHP:
deb http://packages.dotdeb.org squeeze-php54 all
deb-src http://packages.dotdeb.org squeeze-php54 all

As the extra 2 lines are no longer required. php 5.4 is default in Debian 7.
