XF 1.5 Custom Thumbnail Sizes?

I understand that you can set the size of an attachment under Home > Options > Attachments but my understanding is that this will make any image you upload have that thumbnail size if you choose to put a thumbnail into a post.

If you set the size at 250 it will make all thumbnails 250x250.

Is there an option to choose or set a custom thumbnail size.

I might have a 1920x1080 image but i might want the thumbnail to be 900x180

I might also have 5 500x500 images and I want their thumbnail to be 180x150.

Could this be done and is this possible,

if not could I link a 900x180 thumbnail to a 1920x1080 and have that show as a lightbox? (the problem here is that if there are more then 1 image i can scroll though them with lightbox which I want my users and me to do)

Anyone able to shed some light on this?

No, it's not possible to set a thumbnail size on a per image basis, or by defining image ranges.

That isn't totally accurate. Attachment thumbnails automatically retain their aspect ratio, so it will resize the longest side to be 250.

So 1920x1080 would resize down to 250 x 140.

A 500 x 500 image would resize down to 250 x 250 (because it retains the aspect ratio).

Thanks Chris D, I thought it would keep the aspect ratio but was not sure.
