Custom fields for style selection and user group

If a make custom fields for users, fx interest A, interest B, interest C, etc.
I would like

1. Users with interest B are placed in user group B, possible?
2. Users in user group B see style B, possible?

Users with no interest are placed in default member group and see default style

I would suggest using these two together:

With the first users can choose which group they want to join and with the second you can set the styling options based on user groups.

Thanks. Been looking further into this. I was almost there with basic setup, investating whether "promotions" can be used since you can be promote to another usergroup based on custom field but unfortunately it requires a new title.
