Would you consider adding it, please? I think people from other countries will be helped if they identify what country each thread may be pertinent to.

Though we are a UK forum, less than 50% of our traffic is from the UK. 15% is from the US and the rest split between many countries.
It means that people ask questions that are specific to their country. Like opinion on products only available in their country from retailers only in their country.
It means that their question will go unanswered because the majority of readers are from the UK and the thread gets pushed off the first page before someone from their country even sees it.
But if threads show the country flag then at least readers can see the origin of the poster and understand why there are differences in language or references.
And they can identify theads from people in their country.

Which brings me to the ability to filter threads by specific user country. I.e. Show me only threads by people in my country.
Having the country in the user account means this addon has the potential to add some great functionality for the forum admin

This update adds/changes the following:

• Add - Setting to allow users to change their flag display privacy option
• Add - Option to exclude user groups from having their flag displayed
• Add - Flag display privacy option to member privacy options
• Add - Flag display in forum thread list
• Add - Search for country of origin in thread display options
• Change - Display conditions for showing flag in avatar to improve style compatibility.

This is now available.

But it does not go hand in hand with your other request which is also now in the latest update.

A member hiding their user flag makes it impracticable if not impossible to search for the country a thread came from. So, it's not possible to hide a members flag in the forum thread list if the option to show/search the country in the thread list is enabled.

Have you enabled the 'Permit Members to Hide Flag' option in the add-on settings?

No, I don't but this could be due an add-on or because of extra.css. (I removed the unneeded things). Will check that.

It could also be your style. Try using the default XF style and see if it's there.

Quick question to make sure I understand this properly.
If members are able to hide their flags, are you saying that the search function won't work?
Because the only issue I see is that if they are hiding their flags then the search should just omit their content. I can see that might make the query nasty.
But is there any other reason the two features can't be used together?

If you enable the show/search function, the user's flags will be shown in the thread list no matter what their privacy setting is.

I did not modify the standard XF thread display option routine except to add the country to it. In my opinion it defeats the entire purpose of searching the country of origin if members are not going to display their flag. You could in theory end up with an entire forum with nobody showing their country.

By the way, you updated your add-on from 1.1.2 to 1.1.3 but in my opinion this is a major update and you could have defined it as 2.0.0 or at least as 1.2.0 .

Wait, found some bug.
If once you select a forum with "Do not show Flag", then there is no option to unselect. Always at least one forum is selected.
Checking/unchecking "Show Flag in Thread List" doesn't reset this value either.

Only a few people will choose not to display their country. And I was imagining that people using the country search feature would not mind if a few threads don't show up in the results.

On a different note, in the thread list, I want to overlay the flag over the bottom left of the avatar. I appreciate this will require a template edit of some kind. Can you point me in the right direction please?

Also in the instructions on the admin page, it reads

NOTE: This will have no effect on administrators if they are in a user group that has been given permission to view flags. They will be able to view flags no matter what the user selects in their privacy options.

It's the moderators who need to see the flags as well as the supermoderators and administrators.
