  • ADD: Guest/User logic for rendering Blur CSS dependent
Please note, features moving forward will focus on "User Mode (advanced permission-based)" with the aim of sunsetting the "Guest" (simple) mode. It's recommended you update to the User mode when you have time. If you have any questions please post in the discussions and I'll be happy to...

Regarding this: "Please note, features moving forward will focus on "User Mode (advanced permission-based)" with the aim of sunsetting the "Guest" (simple) mode. It's recommended you update to the User mode when you have time. If you have any questions please post in the discussions and I'll be happy to help with the transition."

Is there a quick overview of the settings I need to update when switching to User Mode? I just went through the motions and didn't get it working - so I must be overlooking something obvious or just not setting things right.

So, assuming you're using "Guest Mode" mode, the only change you need to make to mimic "Guest Mode" under "User Mode" is:
  • Switch to "User Mode" in Content Blur Pro options
    • Note, by default, all user permissions default to showing all content "unblurred"
    • Therefore, for "Unregistered/Unconfirmed" we need to change the above setting to blur the content...
  • Visit "User Group Permissions"
    • admin.php?permissions/user-groups/
  • Select "Unregistered / Unconfirmed" (Guests)
    • admin.php?permissions/user-groups/unregistered-unconfirmed.1/
  • Change the permission set for this user group to "No" (refer to screenshot below)
    • View stickies unblurred (set to No)
    • View thread content unblurred (set to No)
The above will set Guests to see all content blurred for regular forum content and stickies.

Note, once you have content blurred for Guests using the settings above you can more granularly set "unblurred" content for specific forums using "Node Permissions"

Thank you for the clarity. It's simple enough. I think may have overlooked something minor.

You didn't respond to my message in the PM thread.

Would it be possible to make my purchased downloads available under your new site? I can't download upgrades / new versions of your add on?

Hey @Wutime

I'm interested in this addon but not from a registration boost/user upgrades viewpoint as my community is a closed community, more from a security slant and I think I could make it work that way. From what I can tell this doesn't blur text snippets on the latest activity or news feed pages or snippets on search results. If not, is there any way this could be accomplished?

It could be I'm sure. Can you explain to me why you would want to blur latest activity, feeds or search results? I'm trying to understand the motivation or purpose.

It is maybe just my way of thinking, seems logical to me because some people might look in these areas if they desperately want to see content (even small snippets can reveal information) without registering. If no-one else has brought it up then it is probably just me and might only be beneficial to me :)

I think you could take advantage of this addon to hide all the responses to a post by blurring if the user has not published a message in the last 7 days, for example.

This way you would only be able to see the initial message of the thread and you would be forced to have to participate with your opinion on the topic before being able to see the comments of the rest of the users.

It would be fantastic if it could also be configured with guest using a cookie that saves the information of whether the user has already participated in the forum or not to see the rest of the responses. Once the guest's message was approved in the approval queue, they would be allowed to see all posts, not before.

If the posts are blurred how would they reply after 7 days? Also, wouldn't their opinion on the topic be in their original post?

The first post, which is the one with the initial question or debate, would be visible. The rest of the comments from other users would not be. In this way, if the user wants to know the rest of the opinions on the initial question, he must necessarily publish his own as well.
