XF 2.1 Changing to friendly URLs

I'm considering enabling friendly URLs for my forum which has a lot of content, but I have two questions:

1) If I enable friendly URLs, the old URLs will stop working or there will be a simple redirect and both urls will work?

2) Does it have any relevant effect for SEO? Should I bother?
