changing/removing "forums" & "threads" in URL

with XF uploaded to "forum" folder on the server and SEO friendly urls enabled
...is it possible to remove "forums" & "threads" from URLs so instead:

site.com/forum/forums/forum_title
site.com/forum/threads/thread_title

would be:

site.com/forum/forum_title
site.com/forum/thread_title

2nd question... is it possible to replace those words with different ones?
If so...where I could change it?

Can I change the URL structure?
Other than enabling or disabling friendly URLs and specifying a URL portion for nodes, it is not possible to change the structure.

If you install in the root then there will be no additional /forum directory.

As for the specific set up of that site, you would better off asking the site owner.

I think it has something to do with his portal add-on.

Jaxel is one of the more established addon-author. The / and the /forum are caused by his XenPorta add-on, and it doesn't do /forum/forums or anything.

I figured he was using Shadab's CustomIndex library: http://xenforo.com/community/threads/library-set-your-own-route-controller-as-homepage.10156/ uploaded his forum in the root and set his portal class as the custom index. Or is this built into the portal now?

Cool, I just downloaded it and took a quick gander. Looks like he is using Shadab's library, just that it's bundled in with the portal addon. Everything still needs to be uploaded to the root?

Oh, then I suppose it is. You can assume all the plugins go to the root, then.

Has there ever been a change to or better answer then post #2 above?

Considering moving a 20 year old forum that is in the sub folder /forum/

There is also a custom built CMS that is in the root domain so putting the forum in the root is not possible.

It appears to be no simple way to redirect the domain.com/forum/forums/page-titles to domain.com/forum/pagetitles

I had hopes that the route filters would help, but that is a nogo since it always adds another word as if it is in another subfolder

Hoping this was conquered in the last 10 years
