Changing Domains After A Conversion

Hi,

It has been a few months since I have moved from vBulletin to xenForo on one site. I have a new domain name for it that I wish to use but still wish to keep the vB redirects working properly (Using the provided 3.8 redirects in the Resource Manager).

Can someone provide me with a guideline on how to best move to the new domain name while keeping the old vB links working?

I imagine it would go something like this:

vB links: Showthread.php?t-100 > Domianold.com xenForo Links > Domainnew.com xenForo Links

Have your web host park the new domain on your existing site. Update your board URL:

Admin CP -> Home -> Options -> Basic Board Information -> Board URL

That should be it. The redirect scripts use the Board URL in the redirect so they should automatically update.

Add the red code to XF's .htaccess file:

Rich (BB code):
#	Mod_security can interfere with uploading of content such as attachments. If you
#	cannot attach files, remove the "#" from the lines below.
#<IfModule mod_security.c>
#	SecFilterEngine Off
#	SecFilterScanPOST Off
#</IfModule>

ErrorDocument 401 default
ErrorDocument 403 default
ErrorDocument 404 default
ErrorDocument 500 default

<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
	RewriteEngine On

	RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^newdomain\.com$
	RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://newdomain.com/forum/$1 [R=301,L]

	#	If you are having problems with the rewrite rules, remove the "#" from the
	#	line that begins "RewriteBase" below. You will also have to change the path
	#	of the rewrite to reflect the path to your XenForo installation.
	#RewriteBase /xenforo

	#	This line may be needed to enable WebDAV editing with PHP as a CGI.
	#RewriteRule .* - [E=HTTP_AUTHORIZATION:%{HTTP:Authorization}]

	RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f [OR]
	RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -l [OR]
	RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d
	RewriteRule ^.*$ - [NC,L]
	RewriteRule ^(data/|js/|styles/|install/|favicon\.ico|crossdomain\.xml|robots\.txt) - [NC,L]
	RewriteRule ^.*$ index.php [NC,L]
</IfModule>

Change the domain name appropriately. And change /forum to match the name of your forum root. Or remove it if the forum is installed in the web root.
