Ok, changed a username manually in the admin.
Then found a post by that user, and moved the post, creating a new thread. (I can't recall what the username was listed as before I moved the post, old or new)
Anyway, with the new post, the old username still is listed on the right in the forum view, when looking at the list of topics. I'm attaching a screenshot of that, and then a screen shot of the username when reading the post. Also, cleared thread, forum and user cache.
