XF 2.2 Can't upgrade via admin panel

Not sure what has happened, but since yesterday I had errors in the ACP saying that data/internal_data were not writeable. I have since chmod these to 777.
I have uploaded the whoami.php file and it shows as apache.
Looking at my files, the owner is myself.
However when I try and do the ACP upgrade it says that it's not possible as files are not writeable.

Any tips at all?

I've made sure everything has been chmod to 777, however I now get this error:
The following issue was found when determining if a one-click upgrade is possible: The files are owned by a different user than the upgrade is running as.

Make sure XF files are owned by your web server user.

I've used the whoami.php file above which comes back with apache.
When I look in FTP, it shows they are owned by davesmith

Contacted my host, seems like FastCGI was disabled, Allowing me to update via the ACP now.
