Duplicate Cant enter bookmark message or labels

I can reproduce this on Android 14 and Chrome 130.0.6723.58, although it's not consistent. I was able to make it do this a few times, but then it started working as expected. I added/deleted the bookmark a few times afterwards, and edited the bookmark labels and it was fine.

Might be worth noting that, for me, when it did do this, it was during an edit. When I added the bookmark it worked fine.

I've gotten 1 result where somehow my labels autofilled to what I have saved and the behavior stopped, but I couldn't tell you how many times that I clicked the textbox for the drop down labels to appear (10s).

Keyboard still flickers on this thread (XF) as attached.

Which device is it specifically? Which keyboard is it?

We cannot currently repro on the same versions so wondering if it’s a device specific or keyboard specific thing.

@mjda was able to trigger the same, so if it'd probably be best for them to try and replicate it again for more information if it persists.

In any case if you have time to do more testing either of you @frm or @mjda that would be useful. We’ve so far not had people be able to repro it on Samsung devices after trying a couple including Android 14 and 16. So we need to start looking at whether zoom, keyboard, extensions weird settings and so on.

I suppose basically one strategy is, can you repro it working by making any changes to anything?

As far as I know, the only Android setting I've changed is Screen Zoom to +1. The issue still persists when it's reset.

I don't know any other steps you'd like me to try because I generally don't modify settings, and to the best of my knowledge, Screen Zoom was the only thing I've changed from how it was shipped, aside from customizations such as the lock screen/wallpaper.

Also, no Chrome extensions.

FWIW: I've gone through two Android upgrades and a multitude of Chrome upgrades since first reported, and it's been an issue ever since.

There’s not a lot we can do on either side. Either you need to fix it or we need to break it. Outside of you sending me your entire phone I’m not sure how we’re able to troubleshoot something we can’t reproduce ourselves. I do have another device I can test as well as some simulators but confidence is not currently high.

So here's what I've found for me, whether I'm on my phone or my desktop.

The Message works fine, regardless of what I do. With Labels, it only doesn't work if I type the label text in, and then immediately click "Save". In order to make it save correctly, I have to type in the word, then actually type the "," character, hit tab, or click outside the input box, in order to make the pill (or whatever it's called) show up prior to clicking "Save".

I've thought this could be as designed, although for someone who doesn't know that the pills actually indicate the labels, it could be confusing.

That doesn’t sound anything like the issue affecting @frm. And that’s mostly just the behaviour/nature of token inputs. To lock in the value it needs to be a token otherwise it’s not complete. There’s an argument for forcing any incomplete tokens to a token but, yeah, nothing to do with this report 🙂

Yeah, I just re-read this thread and realized this isn't what was reported. It's been too long! 🤣 Sorry about that.

Anyways, yes, on my phone the behavior in @frm's videos is exactly what happens to me too, but now it's only when I'm adding a new bookmark. I'm not sure how that flipped from my original reply, but now editing bookmarks works just fine. I'm not sure how to do a screen recording but it'd be redundant anyways. I click the bookmark button on a thread, then when I click in either of the input blocks my editor pops up and quickly disappears.

Also, for what it's worth, one thing i noticed is that when I go to edit a bookmark, my cursor is auto-focused on the Message block. When I click to add a bookmark, that's not the case.

Actually, scratch that. It does happen when I edit the bookmark from the thread but not when I try to edit from the Bookmark menu under the main toolbar. The only difference I see there is that, once again, in the bookmark menu when I'm editing the auto-focus takes me right to the Message again. Editing from the post's bookmark icon itself does not.

FYI in regards to Samsung, this issue is the same as what I submitted at https://xenforo.com/community/threa...pop-up-closes-the-keyboard-on-android.221569/ and it still happens with my Samsung S23 Ultra with the current versions of Chrome and GBoard.

For the folks who can't reproduce it, confirm if they are using the default Samsung Keyboard or Google GBoard keyboard, that could be the difference. (Edit: Just tried again with the Samsung Keyboard instead of GBoard, same results unfortunately.)

AI eventually gave this workaround, and it seems to be working on the demo. There may be some implications with the Labels drop-down to previously saved labels other text fields, though, as I don't entirely understand what this does (s crip t before /body).

JavaScript:
<script>
(() => {
    if (window.__xfBookmarkKeyboardFixV3) return;
    window.__xfBookmarkKeyboardFixV3 = true;

    let protectionUntil = 0;

    function isBookmarkInput(element) {
        return !!element?.closest?.(
            '.tooltip-content-inner form'
        ) && (
            element.matches('textarea, input:not([type="hidden"])') ||
            element.isContentEditable
        );
    }

    document.addEventListener('pointerdown', event => {
        if (isBookmarkInput(event.target)) {
            protectionUntil = performance.now() + 1500;
        } else {
            protectionUntil = 0;
        }
    }, true);

    document.addEventListener('focusin', event => {
        if (isBookmarkInput(event.target)) {
            protectionUntil = Math.max(
                protectionUntil,
                performance.now() + 1500
            );
        }
    }, true);

    window.addEventListener('resize', event => {
        if (
            performance.now() < protectionUntil &&
            isBookmarkInput(document.activeElement)
        ) {
            event.stopImmediatePropagation();
        }
    }, true);
})();
</script>

Thank you for reporting this issue. This is the same bug as "Bookmark - cannot add message (focus will not stay on message field)", which was first reported in Brave on iOS. We've reproduced it in Chrome on Android too, and we'll track it in that thread.
