Can I hide album photos in media overview?

Within my media gallery there are videos and photos.

Some of my user groups have permission to create private albums and upload photos. Everything works fine.

However, I'm looking for a possibility to hide the album photos on the media overview page. When users visit the media overview they only should see videos (or a video category). Can I do this?

That isn't possible, unfortunately.

It is possible in the options to set the Media navigation tab link to point to the albums page, if that helps. It's not exactly what you want, but some people prefer it.
