Best way to migrate from IPB

Hi, we are still on IPB 3.4 and I'm looking for an advice what is the best way to migrate to XF. Particulary we are waiting for XF 3, but could start the migration process earlier. We need to save as much forum data as possible.

Do we need to find a dev with a custom importer script for a complete migration or the standart XF importer is enough?

What data will be lost in any case due to incompatibilities?

Which way is better in terms of saving data:
IPB 3 => IPS 4 => XF 2
or
IPB 3 => XF 1.5 => XF 2
?

Thanks

BTW it is interesting to compare two different implementations of the same tiptap editor. IPS claims its not a bug that their implementation is quite slow, and they claim it is not possible to have bbcodes. But not for XF I guess.

IPS says things are impossible when they do not want to do them, not because they are impossible. I'm not going to say they lie all the time, because they do have to sleep, but I'd just assume they're like politicians and when they open their mouths you shouldn't trust 90% of what they say.

In fairness to IPS, the reason for not supporting bbcode isn't really because of the editor, as much as they dropped bbcode some time ago in favour of just using a WYSIWYG editor out of the box (seriously, they were just using CKEditor for posts in general)

This is one of the main reasons we have not upgraded to IPS4. Ckeditor v4 was very hard to use without "Source mode". Have no idea how others were ok with it. Tiptap is much better, at least the lack of bbcodes is not so critical, from what I can tell after trying beta.

Answer: most people don’t do fancy formatting in posts, and when they do, the WYSIWYG is usually “good enough”.

You are right, we use formatting. Also while testing v4 we had issues with deleting emojies, images, quotes, tables, spoilers, and with moving parts of the content - all these made it unusable for us. We have 3.4 with all the features, formatting, bbcodes, it was and still is great peace of software, but unfortunately too old already and without perspective.
