I prefer using QuickTime on my iMac.

If you just need to cut videos, just use a simple free tool. The integrated tools with Windows or Mac should do the trick. For advanced video editing, people prefer Vegas, FCP(X), Premiere Pro and obviously Avid Media Composer.
