XF 2.2 Ban checking abstract controller

Hey,

I want to show a specific node and thread for a banned user in an addon I am working on, however Xenforo checks for banned users on the abstract controller. Is there a method to override this?

Override the abstract controller method:

public function assertNotBanned()
{

}
