Need guidance migrating from vBulletin 4 + DBSEO to XenForo (1M+ posts)
Hi everyone,
My migration project has been delayed for quite some time, but I've finally hired a PHP/MySQL developer to help. He isn't experienced with either XenForo or vBulletin, so I'd like to understand the correct migration sequence before we begin.
If someone could outline the migration steps in the correct order, I'd greatly appreciate it. A simple checklist or best-practice workflow would probably save me several hours (or days) of trial and error.
Thanks in advance!
Hi everyone,
My migration project has been delayed for quite some time, but I've finally hired a PHP/MySQL developer to help. He isn't experienced with either XenForo or vBulletin, so I'd like to understand the correct migration sequence before we begin.
Current setup
- Existing forum: www.example.com/vbulletinforum/ (vBulletin 4.x + DBSEO)
- New XenForo location: www.example.com/xenforoforum/
- XenForo files have already been uploaded.
- A new/blank MySQL database has been created. (using same username/password like vbulletin)
My questions
- Should I run the XenForo installer first and complete a fresh installation?
- At what stage should I use the official XenForo vBulletin importer?
- When should these add-ons be installed?
- DBTech DragonByte SEO URLs to XenForo 2 - https://xenforo.com/community/resources/dbtech-dragonbyte-seo-urls-to-xenforo-2.6361/
- XenForo Redirects for vBulletin - https://xenforo.com/community/resources/dbtech-dragonbyte-seo-urls-to-xenforo-2.6361/
- Official Importer from xenforo team 1.5.2
- Is there a recommended order for the entire migration process so that existing URLs and SEO are preserved as much as possible?
If someone could outline the migration steps in the correct order, I'd greatly appreciate it. A simple checklist or best-practice workflow would probably save me several hours (or days) of trial and error.
Thanks in advance!
