XF 2.0 Avatar Size In Bytes

Is it possible to set a maximum avatar size in bytes for a usergroup in XF2?

In short, no. Avatars are set to a specific size which will generally limits the file size sufficiently.

We did have a limit at one point but it actually caused more confusion due to the resizes that happen for avatars and where the limits applied.

Ok, thanks. Could you tell me please which is a default maximum size then?

There isn't a specific maximum size -- it will just be whatever space is needed for a particular image size (we generate multiple sizes).
